RAW FM MIX COMPILATION 09/04/2009 The all-dance radio network Raw FM is ACT, NSW and parts of Victoria’s equivalent to Adelaide’s Fresh FM. Expect a cool mix of current dance music, live sets and shows. Oh, and their third mix CD Raw 09. Onion chats to the brains behind the album, Chris Fraser. What’s your involvement? Aside from having mixed the new Raw 09 CD alongside Jeff Drake, I program music for the station and am about to start a new show of my own. How did you get into music? As a nerdy teenager I took over my school’s socials. Then as a nerdy young adult I started playing in clubs. The first sounds of early house in the late ‘80s clinched the deal. Funniest thing you’ve witness in the music scene? Probably the time at around 5am when a documentary crew coming in to a club I was playing in with a moth stuck to the end of a broomstick and proceeded to film it flying around the dance floor. It was sad that the moth was (probably) dead, but pretty damn funny and surreal all at once. Nothing’s ever topped it. Fave track and why on the album? I’d probably have to say my mix of Everything by P-Money. I’m really happy with the way it turned out, and it was a great song to begin with. Where to from here? Off on tour in a big way, we’re visiting most parts of the country over the next few months and I can’t wait. Why would we buy the records? Anywhere that stocks quality moth-approved electro disco hotness. Raw 09 is out now through Sony/Onelove. Want a copy? Email belindap@ripitup.com.au for a chance to win. COMPS! 25/03/2009 COMPS! This issue Eric The Falcon looks at two new B Sharp mixtapes. We have two new editions to the B Sharp mixtape series released this week. The first, the store’s third in this series, is a well-blended jazz/soul mix from local talent and long time staff member Ocky. The dude knows what he is on about and this is a mix that, if you have just entered the jazz/soul spectrum, applies some great reference material from lesser-known artists. The one that sticks in mind is the track Yes It’s You by Sweet Charles - a song produced by James Brown. Whether you crank this with dinner, letting it all out, or getting it on with your date - you will find that this mix fits the palette for any occasion. The fourth release of the series comes from the famed Friday night Downtown at local club Dragonfly. This is the mix from Dragonfly’s first birthday weekend featuring Sydney-sider Simon Caldwell. Incredible quality control from this DJ ranging from disco to the deeper side of house. These mixes are just $10 each or free when you spend $50 or more at the store... yeah ... it’s a deal. Eric The Falcon Onion has two copies of each mixtape to giveaway. To win email <davidknight@ripitup.com.au> For these releases and all your vinyl and musical needs head to B Sharp Records at 240 Rundle St (8223 7258). ![]() |
