Sam Chisholm is a guy that’s done an aerial, an ollie, a flip, a slide, a grind, a handrail and a lip trick in his time. Evidently, he doesn’t mind a skate or two - or taking photos. Combine the two forces together and the serial skater come artist represents the true psyche behind sidewalk surfing (or as we know it, skateboarding) in his inaugural solo photographic exhibition Hey, You Can’t Do That Here!, Sam documents the 2006 Adelaide skate culture by exploring what drives people to skate - the moment, the feeling, determination and the self-expression behind the urge to skate. And if you want to get technical, he merges classic graphic design structure with conventional medium format film techniques making for some damn fine looking photos. Look out for skateboarding magazine Slam and tres-stylin’ mag Monster Children that have published this guru’s work. We caught up with Sam during his art exhibition for a good ol’ five-minute chinwag…
