FRINGE BENEFITS LOCAL ARTIST OF THE WEEK

WELL BEING

The artist known as Well Being - Alexander Holland - wears many hats: musician, sound designer, producer and DJ. And although he loves many genres of music, D&B remains his primary production and DJ outlet. So good at his chosen profession he was the sole composer chosen to write and produce all original music for the SBS TV show Is Your House Killing You.

Check this: LTJ Bukem, Aphrodite, Big Bud, Nookie, Bachelors Of Science, Concord Dawn, Contour, Stamina MC, Dr S Gachet, Mutt and Saburuko have all played his D&B tunes. Well Being is rocking the casbah…

Well Being sounds like... As many feelings as I can fit into sound at that particular moment.

You stand out because... I suppose because I've spent a lot of time and energy working at it, and because people seem to relate to my ideas and the music that I love to make.

Your love affair for music all started when... I would watch old Beta tapes of music videos that my parents had recorded, or hearing the music my aunties and uncles listened to: Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Sade and lots more.

What track of yours is on rotation at Fresh FM?When You're Not Around,

Zen Recordings (available now at all good record stores on 12-inch vinyl).

Best thing about local scene? Good people who are passionate about music. It's a supportive environment because we're a small city.

If I were a movie I’d be...Withnail And I.

Do you have an album coming out? Nope.

One musician would Well Being like to collaborate with? Morrissey or

Johnny Marr... not at the same time though.

Most underrated music star? That's hard; Rufus Wainwright impressed me very much at the Norwood Town Hall this year.

Most cherished album?Thriller.

Where can we see you working your music magic? I DJ around the traps.

Come up and say hi.

Plans in the pipeline? World domination perhaps? Less world

domination, more a career in sound or anything that feeds my soul perhaps.
