Gold Coast house producer Marco Demark is about to follow up the success to his Pete Tong approved global club hit Tiny Dancer.
Last year the Italian-raised house producer received one hell of a birthday present when he found out Pete Tong made his remake of Elton John’s Tiny Dancer his Essential New Tune late last year.
“That was my 31st birthday, it was a good present,” recalls Marco. “I only found out the next day, and I had the feeling from then on we had the opportunity for the song to be big but you really don’t expect it to go that big.”
Tiny Dancer went number one in most DJ charts in the UK, top 10 in the club charts all over Europe and in Australia. Marco was surprised the track did so well.
“I didn’t think the song was going to get so big. Obviously there are a lot of people who love Elton John and I think we did a good job with all the remixes as well [including Deadmanu5 and John Dahlback]. Pete Tong was a great supporter at the start; he really helped the song come out. Carl Kennedy did a good job as well; he’s the one that signed that, he’s the one that initially pushed it out.”
Following on from his success is his next single I Can’t Find This, which will be released the German label Kingdom Kome Kuts, the label that has also released tracks from local producer John Morley. Marco says he is not concerned about repeating the success of Tiny Dancer.
“It doesn’t really bother me ‘cause I love doing music, so I don’t try to make another hit single I just try and make another single. If the next one doesn’t have the success hopefully one in the future will. For me it’s about making music and touching people. If I can do that with every song I’m very happy.”
After his show at HQ on Sat Aug 2, Marco will soon depart to Europe for a tour.
“We actually just finished organising a tour for the whole of Europe,” finishes Marco.

APART FROM TINY DANCER WHAT OTHER CLUB HITS HAVE SAMPLED SOFT ROCK FROM THE ‘70S AND ’80s…
The Trailmix of Fleetwood Mac’s You Make Lovin’ Fun: Underground space disco remake of a Mac classic. This white label mix from last year is the bizness.
Cleptomaniacs All I Do: This Stevie Wonder remake was on every house compile in 2000 and 2001. Hasn’t held up that well over time.
Moustache Feat. Melinda Jackson Everywhere: Get out your handbag for this reworking of Mac’s ‘87 hit.
Mylo In My Eyes: Mylo cleverly samples Kim Carnes ’81 version of Bette Davis Eyes on one of his biggest tunes. What has happened to the bald Scot?
